Japanese traditional culture is known for its calmness and its zen. As it could not be otherwise, movements in Japanese traditional dance (“Nihon Buyo”) are slow and delicate. Unusual parts of the whole body are involved in the creation of this ancient and beautiful form of art. Every dance I choreograph tells a story; a story you will recreate with the help of your body but through your feelings and emotions. You will be acting without using any words… you will get away from the real world and start living inside a story.
I offer traditional Japanese dance lessons privately.
You will get the rare opportunity to wear real Kimonos, allowing yourself to experiment with the authenticity and aesthetic beauty of traditional Japanese attire. Through those practices you will discover the fundamentals of traditional Japanese dance and gain a deep understanding of the cultural significance behind them.

Die Tanzstunden bei Chihoco machen sehr viel Spaß! Hier kann ich einfach mal abschalten und meinen meist sehr vollgepackten Alltag für eine Stunde vergessen. Chihoco bringt den Tanz ganz traditionell im Kimono bei, was mir sehr gut gefällt. Sie nimmt sich für jedes kleine Detail in der Choreografie Zeit und erklärt dieses auch sehr verständlich. Nach der Stunde fühlt es sich dann stets so an, als hätte ich eine kleine Reise nach Japan gemacht!
I have been learning Nihon Buyou with Chihoco Yanagi for years now. I started because of the obvious health benefits of its slow and measured movements (I suffer from acute fibromyalgia) and i stayed for its magic and solemn, elegant and calm beauty. Chihoco's dance lessons not only helped me with my muscle pains but also brought a very much needed peace to my soul. I have never met anybody that understood Japanese traditional culture as deeply as Chihoco and so able to teach it as gracefully and passionately. I am deeply honoured and lucky to be her pupil and couldn't be happier to have met her.
